Alfred Sorensen, President and CEO

Alfred has over 25 years of experience in the natural gas business both in Canada and internationally.  He has started several businesses over the course of his career, including Galveston LNG which was the first new liquefaction facility in North America in 40 years. Galveston was ultimately sold to two large North American gas producers with the goal to export natural gas to Asia.  Alfred’s key strength is developing creative solutions to monetize natural gas assets.  He is a chartered accountant and dedicates time to his key philanthropic interests in education and the arts.

Thomas Dawson, Executive VP and COO

Thom has over 20 years of experience in the North American energy industry. He has been involved in the LNG industry for six years with projects in Canada, Australia and the Middle East. Thom was one of the original founders of Galveston LNG and its Kitimat LNG project on the West coast of Canada. He also sits on the board of a Canadian junior oil and gas company.

Justine Davis, VP Business Development

Justine has worked in the international energy industry for over a decade. She has been involved in the LNG industry for over six years, with Galveston LNG’s international subsidiary LNG Impel. During her time at LNG Impel, she worked on the development of small scale LNG projects in Africa, and latterly the development of Impel’s Australian project at Gladstone in Queensland. Justine previously practiced law in Australia.

Thomas Ciz, General Counsel & Corporate Secretary

Thomas has extensive experience in corporate, commercial and taxation law which was gained through over twenty years of practice including nine years as an associate and partner of a national Canadian law firm. Thomas is a member of the Law Society of British Columbia as well as a member of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants.

Rita Theil, Director, Corporate Finance

Drawing on more than 20 years’ experience in public and private company leadership, Rita has a depth of experience in working with pre-IPO and newly listed companies in raising finance, developing their growth strategies and delivering transforming transactions. In North America and Europe, Rita has advised governments, companies and investors on cross border mergers, acquisitions, privatisations and financing strategies in power, water and gas.

Mark Brown, Director, Project Development

Mark has over 30 years of experience in the North American and international energy industry. He was involved in the development of the Canaport LNG facility in New Brunswick and the proposed development of the Maple LNG facility at Goldboro, Nova Scotia. Mark has been involved in several other natural gas developments in Atlantic Canada over the last 15 years.

Riccardo Bortolotti, Managing Director, Business Development (Europe)

Riccardo has been active in the European energy industry for the past 20 years. He has worked for banks, traders, utilities and refiners. His experience ranges from asset based transactions (project finance and M&A) to trading activities, both in physical commodities and in derivatives. He spent most of his time in the oil, gas and power industries. In his latest assignment, Riccardo was running the Europe, Middle East & Africa energy sales desk for a major European bank.

Barb Bryden, Environmental Engineering Manager

Barb previously worked with the Province of Nova Scotia for over twenty eight years and has a depth of expertise and has showed continuous dedication to environmental protection. Her focus was on air and water quality, inspections, approvals, enforcement, safety and project management.  Barb is from Nova Scotia originally and holds a Masters of Environmental Management and Restoration, a Bachelor of Technology, a Bachelor of Environmental Studies and an Environmental Engineering Technology Diploma.

Bonnie Sheppard, Office Manager / Executive Assistant

Bonnie has over 20 years office experience in the energy industry.  She was involved in the proposed development of the Maple LNG facility in Goldboro, Nova Scotia.  Bonnie also played a supportive roll in several Oil & Gas construction projects in Asia, Europe, United States and Canada.

Mark MacLellan, Project Manager

Mark has worked in the construction industry for over 10 years, with more than five years as a project manager for large civil works in the Southern Alberta region.  His main focus was engineering works, contract management, progress monitoring, as well project planning and control.  Mark is from Stellarton, Nova Scotia and has a Business degree from St. Francis Xavier University.

Ryan Scheie, Financial Analyst

Ryan is a financial analyst with experience developing financial models for a number of energy industry clients, primarily in LNG.  He also worked in Operations at the Suncor Refinery in Edmonton Alberta.  Ryan is originally from Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta and has a degree in Economics from the University of Alberta.  He will be based in Pieridae’s Calgary office.
